How to Minimize Jet Lag

Traveling for work or to visit family and friends can be fun, exciting, and exhausting. And if traveling includes airline travel across different time zones and continents, you can expect to feel jet-lagged after your arrival at your destination (or even when you return home). If you know that you’ll be heading east or west during your travels, plan ahead with these effective methods to avoid the exhaustion and disorientation you might feel.

A man and a woman lounge on beach chairs, smiling at each other.

Hydrate

Drink plenty of water for several days prior to your trip. Airplane travel is incredibly dehydrating. Your system can be thrown off for days if you aren’t hydrated enough. Plan to drink 64 ounces of water or more before you head off on your trip, during the flight (8 ounces per hour is recommended) and also at your destination.

Sleep

Switch your clock to your new time zone before you head off. You can change your mindset before you go and think about how you’ll catch up with your sleep. Sleeping on the plane can be difficult for some people, but consider bringing an eye mask, earbuds or noise-canceling headphones, a neck pillow, and a blanket — all of these can help you relax and rest properly.

Avoid Alcohol and Caffeine

Before you head out and during your flight, do your best to avoid too much caffeine and alcohol. You might think that caffeine would be good to stay up until your new local time, but the repercussions are further exhaustion and added dehydration. Alcohol can definitely make you sleepy, but it is dehydrating as well. Stick with plain water or for something a little more “exciting,” consider sparkling water with lemon or lime.

Exercise

When you arrive at your destination, try to reset your inner body clock with exercise. Fresh air can do wonders to help you counteract jet lag and feel like yourself. A small walk in your destination city can do wonders.

There are effective, simple ways to avoid jet lag – implementing them early can provide you with a better overall experience and trip. Jet lag can be rough, but we’re here to make it easier. After your flight, enjoy a reliable, safe, and relaxing car ride with Philly Limo and Sedan Service. Contact us today!

Tips For Planning Summer Get-Together For Your Company

Activities conducted with the workplace team beyond the workplace can be extremely powerful; it is not only a way to unwind and have fun but also a way to enhance workplace camaraderie, which will, in turn, develop relationships and boost workplace cooperation. However, to ensure your team’s get-together is effective, it is imperative that it is planned effectively, otherwise, it may turn out to be an unproductive meeting and a waste of time. This is why the specialists at our Philadelphia ground transportation company have decided to come up with a clear guideline on how to effectively plan your company’s get-together for this summer.

We would also like to recommend contracting the services of our limo service in Philadelphia for all your transportation needs during your get-together. Not only does this guarantee that the team arrives at the venue on time but it also allows the guys a little extra time to bond and guarantees safety on the way back, in case you will be partaking in a little of the devil’s nectar.

Let our professionally trained chauffeurs take the wheel as you all focus your attention on each other and get to know each other better on the ride to and from the venue. Now, without further ado, let us have a look at some of the measures you can take to guarantee that your company’s summer getaway is a success.

Recruit a Planning Committee

Before anything, put together a planning committee for your event. This committee will not only include those planning the get-away but also those who will be in attendance. This ensures that everyone is satisfied; if the attendees feel that they had a say in the kind of get-away they would like and that they influenced major decisions, they will be more likely to be engaged during the actual get-away, which is a necessary ingredient for the event’s overall success.

Top Management/Executives

In order to guarantee that the get-away is successful, it is important to involve the company’s management and top executives. While these individuals may not be in the actual planning committee, they are highly influential and their presence, however passive, will undoubtedly create stronger motivation for the rest of the employees to engage themselves. A getaway that only involves junior employees may not be taken seriously and the junior employees may end up being passive towards the getaway themselves.

Agenda

Prepare an agenda that allows everyone to understand what the getaway is actually about. However, ensure that the agenda or agendas are flexible just in case some of them require more time, or other agendas pop up during the planning process. As much as this is a summer get-away, this is also an opportunity to address workplace issues in an open, non-intimidating environment.

Consider the Company Size

For example, if you are a small company of about 10 people, you are better off organizing a simple get-away such as a camping trip, a retreat at a beach/mountain house, or any other get-away that would be suited for a family retreat. As a small business you should be considering the finances of the company; you don’t want to have a hard time when you’re back because you splurged on a tropical getaway. If you are a large, established company with numerous employees, however, you can go for a vacation-type getaway.

Budget

Expounding on the above point, you should always consider the budget of the get-away carefully. A vacation doesn’t necessarily have to be expensive or held at a faraway destination. After all, the whole point of the getaway is to strengthen the team and enhance workplace cohesiveness. Whatever kind of budget is appropriate for your company, whether it’s just enough for lunch and beverages in the course of a day, or enough to fly the team out to an exotic destination, stay within your financial boundaries to avoid constraints later.

Competitive Activities

Encourage competitive activities during your getaway in order to boost interaction. It may be something as simple as paintball, football, baseball, you name it. A little friendly competition adds fun to the get-away and forces people to actually interact. Do not allow people of the same department to gang up into teams. Mix and match participants; people who would have likely never interacted will use this opportunity to do so, which will, in the grand scheme, enhance inter-departmental relations. To make things a little more interesting have a price in place for the winning teams. For example, dinner coupons for each of the team players to a fancy restaurant with their families.

Food

This may sound trivial or obvious but never underestimate the importance of food. Ensure there is sufficient, quality food at the venue, otherwise, at some point, people will be looking for the exit to go grab bites. If you have to shave a cost from your budget for whatever reason, do not let it be the nutrition aspect. With good food around, however, suddenly everyone is happy to be there. Good food always yields good results.

Celebrate

Most importantly, ensure that the get-away is more about fun and socializing more than it is about work. Summer retreats are a great way to remind the team of all your achievements during the first half of the year. It’s an opportunity to remind the team just how much you value them and all the effort and sacrifices they offer the company. If you go to the getaway and spend half of the time in the conference room your employees will not recognize the difference between the getaway and work; you might as well have continued with work as you were.

Whether you choose to host your getaway at a local park or your back yard, at a swanky venue or in the Bahamas, it is imperative that your employees feel that it is indeed a getaway, which will encourage them to actually participate in the activities you have planned for the team and guarantee the success of the get-away as a whole.

Here’s What Food You Should NEVER Buy at an Airport

Few people seek out airport dining. But long flights and mad dashes through a terminal sometimes necessitate grabbing what you can to sustain yourself.
Inflight food options, which used to be elaborate, have dwindled over the years. Yet many international airports have made a concerted effort to bring in reputable restaurants, from quick-service chains like Shake Shack to higher-end fare like Chicago’s meat-and-beer-centric The Publican, which recently opened an outpost in the city’s O’Hare airport.
Still, there’s reason to be wary about the quality of food in airports, not least of all because of a 2015 FDA report citing poor sanitation practices in Los Angeles’ LAX kitchens. There’s even more reason to expect sticker shock, as there’s little competition once you’re planted at your gate. Here are rules to make sure you get the tastiest, most dependable, and affordable bites the next time you’re at an airport.

1. Skip fresh produce and salads

It may seem counter intuitive if you’re trying to be health-conscious, but raw fruits and vegetables are at a higher risk of carrying bacteria that will make you ill. Given the hasty nature of many airport kitchens and uncertainties about transportation into terminals and how long some ingredients sit out in the frequently labyrinthine structures, it’s much safer to stick to cooked items. And no one wants a sad $12 salad with nutrient-deprived iceberg lettuce.

2. Also rare meats

A little pink in a burger is not cause for alarm. The USDA recommends an internal temperature of 160 degrees Fahrenheit for ground meats, 165 for poultry, and 145 for whole cuts of non-poultry meats. So a medium or even medium-rare steak, for instance, should be fine. Burgers, meanwhile, are a great value when eating out. But avoid anything clearly on the bloody-red side if you’re concerned about an airport vendor’s meat sourcing.

3. Order simple, comforting items like fries and eggs

The airport is generally not the place to taste-test a chef’s culinary innovations. Many airport restaurants, even when they’re branded differently, operate using the same kitchens and teams, so the familiar and popular are much more likely to come out as they should. Fries are nearly impossible to screw up and come straight from the fryer. Same for eggs, toast, and melted cheese off the griddle. At La Vie, a French brasserie in New York City’s JFK airport, you can get a delicious, extremely filling croque-madame (essentially, a fancy name for a grilled cheese with egg) for about $10 dollars. Add a Bloody Mary with a nice kick to wash it down.

4. Avoid anything that’s clearly been sitting out a while

Buffet food is cheap for a reason: It’s made in bulk, not to order, and sits in heated pans sometimes for hours on end. The same is true of any airport quick-service restaurant that’s serving wan-looking pizzas, pastas, and the like from large, warmed trays and plates. A few bucks for a slice of cheese pizza might seem like a deal, but not if it’s lukewarm and dried out. If the place you’re passing looks popular and employees are racing to replace dishes, it’s a good sign the food is tasty, rather than overcooked and soggy. If that’s not the case, keep walking.

5. Stay away from inflight food

Sure, on a nonstop, 11-hour flight to, say, Hawaii or London, you’re liable to get hungry. Longer flights tend to stock better snacks and even meals, but be wary of flights that require paying usually exorbitant upcharges on chips. (JetBlue is a welcome exception, with its very laissez-faire as-many-snacks-as-you-want-for-free policy even on domestic flights. Grab the Terra chips.) Heavily touted meal “boxes” can cost $12 and generally come with tiny portions. Cooked food on flights often starts out frozen, so it tends to come out bland and mushy, and something about the environment of a flight doesn’t suit itself to a full meal. That might be why chef and Parts Unknown host Anthony Bourdain says he never eats plane food. If you know you’re going to be on a long flight, just fill up your carry on with items from your grocery store — save a few bucks and get full.

6. Watch those “express” food stations

It gets tempting when you’re crunched for time at the airport to hit Starbucks or a Cibo Express for a sandwich. But places like that charge a lot and the food is typically prepared well in advance. If you’re feeling starved, a cheese plate is a safe way to go at one of these venues. Anything more advanced than that is going to be a disappointment.

7. Embrace the chains

Well-known, successful restaurants are desperate to keep their customers happy and their brand image in good standing. Beloved chains like Shake Shack, even when they partner with third-party travel-dining companies, make agreements to insure certain standards in ingredients and preparation. Spots like Potbelly, Chili’s, and other fast-casual places you might see at a strip mall deliver dependable favorites in airports that are basically exactly what you would get in their normal locations. It’s hard to beat $5.20 for a hulking Potbelly smoked ham sandwich oozing with swiss cheese when that flight gets delayed.

New Year’s Resolutions for Professionals

Can you believe that 2018 is here? 2017 seemed to fly by, didn’t it? All of us at Philadelphia Limousine Service wishing you happy, health and prosperous year!
We would like to share some New Year’s resolutions for professionals that can help you succeed at work and make 2018 your best year yet. Adopt the following resolutions to make the next 12 months the best of your career!

Learn something new each day
You’re most likely an expert at your day-to-day profession; after all, you do hold your current position for a reason. Doing the same things at work each and every day can lead to boredom and a lack of feeling challenged, which is when most of us tend to zone out and lose focus.
Broaden your horizons and seek out knowledge and skills that will enhance your career and value.  The business world is ever evolving and you want to be ready.  Spending at least 10 minutes a day staying on top of trends and new technologies is a start.

Network
How many other professionals do you keep in contact with? If you only know a few professionals in and outside your office, it’s time to branch out and network! Connect with previous colleagues with whom you’ve lost touch and form relationships with more people in your office in different departments. Are you on LinkedIn?  Meet even more professionals in your area by attending networking events at least a few times a year.  Or consider joining a professional organization, local chamber or doing some volunteer charity work.

Take more breaks
Most of us have more work than we can handle and find ourselves consumed in it, barely leaving our desks for more than a quick bathroom break. Sitting for 8 plus hours a day can lead to health complications and can actually hinder your work performance. Make it a point each day to take more breaks! In a recent study that was published in the International Journal of Behavioral Nutrition and Physical Activity, it was recommended to get up and move five minutes per hour spent at a desk. Get up and take a short walk around the office, get a cup of coffee or simply pace around your office to get your blood flowing!  And check out this link for 9 Office Stretches You Can Do At Your Desk.

Don’t take business matters personally
If you’re one to take business matters personally, make a resolution to do the opposite in 2018. Try to remember that things that happen in the office should be left at the office, not taken home to distract from your personal time. We know that sometimes that’s easier said than done, but we promise you’ll feel much better and more relaxed at home if you learn to leave your worries at the office.

Clean your desk regularly
Ever feel cluttered and can’t see your actual desk because it’s covered in papers, to-do lists, meeting notes, etc.? Clean your desk weekly to stay more organized. Having a clean and organized workspace will boost productivity and can help reduce stress. Maybe you’ll even find your favorite pen you haven’t seen in weeks (and can stop blaming that coworker of yours for stealing it)!

Use your vacation time
Do you use all of your vacation time each year? If not, make sure to do so in 2018. Your employer has given you paid vacation time for a reason. It’s a time to get away from the office so you can come back feeling refreshed and productive. Did you know that there are several benefits to taking time off of work, including a reduction in stress? Go ahead – start planning your next vacation now!

Choose Philadelphia Limousine as your corporate transportation provider
Are you a business owner, office manager or have a say in which providers your company partners with? If so, start 2018 off right by making the switch to Philly Limo as your Philadelphia corporate transportation provider. Whether your company needs transportation for local airport service, business meetings, corporate events or business travel, we’ll make your transportation needs effortless and stress-free.  Our corporate services are second to no one and reflect the skills and expertise expected and demanded by the discriminating travelers. We are known for our personalized partnerships, flexible approach to corporate travel management, and our ability to tailor programs to our clients’ needs. Become a Corporate Account holder today!
A new year is the perfect time to hit refresh and swap old habits for new ones. By adopting the professional resolutions above, you’re bound to make 2018 your year for professional success! We wish you a very happy and successful New Year!

Philadelphia Summer Travel

Summer is the prime season for vacations. Whether it's relaxing by the pool or traveling to a new tropical paradise, Philadelphia residents are packing their bags and heading out for some fun in the sun. Philadelphia Limousine, which provides airport transportation service in Philadelphia, PA, has seen the effects that the season has had on travelers, and anticipates that more and more people will head out of the city every day.
According to research by the Bureau of Transportation, Americans will make an estimated 657 million long-distance trips this summer. This means that Philadelphia travelers and airport car services in Atlantic City, NJ might especially feel the heat of peak summer travel, as Philadelphia International Airport (PHL) is ranked 18th in the total number of passengers serviced each day. With over 83,000 passengers moving in and out of the airport daily, this number is expected to increase drastically during the months of July and August. Residents are advised to book their ride early, as transportation services can quickly overbook during this time of year.
While most travelers will be traveling domestically this summer, a growing number of Pennsylvanians are choosing to spend the season abroad. The most popular international summer vacation spot for travelers in Pennsylvania is Jamaica, with Costa Rica and Aruba coming in second and third place.
Philadelphia Limo is there for travelers no matter where you're heading this summer. They provide luxurious and comfortable travel to the airport and locally in the Philadelphia region.
Interested parties can book a reservation by calling 215-485-7265 or visiting us online at http://www.philly-limo.com/.

Philadelphia Limousine’s Insider Travel Tips

Only buy a ticket on Tuesday
In the travel industry, Tuesday is the first day of airfare sales. This is when all the deals are published and the offers will last up to 3 days. If you shop on a Tuesday, you have a chance of picking up one of these deals: You have no chance on a Monday.
  • Tip: When all the cheap tickets are sold, ticket prices revert to normal. This means that you should not wait until Thursday or even Wednesday: Look for your great deal on Tuesday
Fly early
People don’t like to fly hungry, this means that pre-breakfast flights are among the cheapest. If you can stand it, an early flight is likely to be a great deal and, as they are normally less busy, you may catch up on your lost sleep any way.
  • Tip: Fly early for the best chance of getting there. If an early flight is delayed, you still have a chance of getting to your destination, take a later flight and a delay means you may not.
Packing
Avoid putting the following in checked baggage:
  • Valuables (e.g., cash, jewelry, expensive electronics).
  • Critical items (e.g., medicine, keys, passport, tour vouchers, business papers).
  • Irreplaceable items (e.g., heirlooms, original photos).
  • Fragile items.  Consider shipping them in advance.  If they must be checked, wrap them carefully in padding.
  • Perishables
Many airlines limit their liability for loss or damage of these items on domestic trips.  Try to carry them on your person or in a carry-on bag.
  • Put items that you will need during the first 24 hours in a carry-on bag.  Although most checked bags arrive on time, some may be delayed for a day or two.
  • When purchasing a suitcase lock, remember that security inspectors may need to open your checked bags out of your presence.
If you wish to lock your bags, see www.tsa.gov  for information on locks that security personnel can open and re-lock.  If you use an unapproved lock and your bag is selected for inspection, security staff will break the lock if necessary.
  • Put a tag on the outside of your baggage with your name, address, and phone numbers.
Most airlines provide free "privacy tags" which conceal this information from passersby.  Put the same information inside each bag, and add an address and telephone number where you can be reached during your trip.

Rely on Philadelphia Limousine Service for Stress Free Ground Transportation
So you’ve got the best deal, arrived on time and with limited stress. You then spend ages getting from the airport to your destination and arrive just as stressed and late as you would have if the airline messed it up. A simple solution is to use our limo service. We will solve all of your ground transportation needs for a lot less than you think.

Rather than a miserable hour hauling your baggage to some distant rental car outlet, for a car that you can’t park at your destination anyway, step directly into professionally driven car and go directly to your destination. From the moment that we answer your call all the way through reaching your
final destination, Philadelphia Limo Service is luxury travel done right.

The Worst Things You Can Do on Business Travel

Corporate travel is a necessary evil for many of us. While travel can be satisfying and is certainly necessary, it takes an undeniable toll on mind, body and our relationships. This short post lets you know what the 4 most damaging things people do to themselves while on the road and lets you know what to do to stay healthy.

http://www.parkavenuelimousine.com/blog/wp-content/uploads/2014/06/business-travel-airport.jpg

Eating badly
Avoiding the airport fast food trap can be difficult when you don’t have enough time to find something better and you’re eating to try and make up for a lack of sleep. Preparation can help; bringing your own healthy snacks like fruits and nuts will help to keep hunger at bay. You can also check out the healthy places to eat in advance, so you make the best use of the time you’ve got. Also, don’t miss breakfast if possible; you’ll most likely just over eat later.

Drinking too little or too much
Dehydration is a real risk that’s associated with travel that’s often compounded by drinking too much coffee or alcohol at the wrong times. It’s well worth carrying a bottle of water the whole time to minimize the chances of this happening.

Too little sleep
It’s quite possible that you’re going to have to do a lot in the evenings. This needs to be sensible and not lead to you becoming ineffective the next day. You also need to ensure that you avoid drinking coffee or eating too late that could disturb your sleep.

Wasting time on ground transportation
Travelling is hard enough without being late, getting lost or struggling to find a hire car with your heavy bags. Wasting time on ground transportation does not make sense. Of all possible options a sedan service may not be the lowest priced but is by far the most reliable, stress free and the best preparation a pressured executive can make before hitting a big meeting.

Philadelphia Limousine can help you with this last problem. Based in Philadelphia, and operating in Tri-State area, we have the capability, resources and team to support every possibility. We understand that every customer is unique and aim to fulfill your individual requirements. We, at Philadelphia Limo, hope that you find this small post useful and would love to be your next travel partner, call our team today.

The Seven Deadly Sins of Air Travel

Airfares have been falling for some time now but overall spending on air travel has been slightly increasing – how can this be? The answer lies in the transaction fees. The deadly sins of the airline travel industry. In this post, and in our continuing one next time, we take a two part light-hearted look at how airlines use these human emotions to turn a profit and – naturally – we have a few tips to shun them and hopefully save you some cash.

Lust
Lust in airline fees is the need to choose the most desirable seat. These days so many airlines charge you for the ‘privilege’ of choosing a window or aisle seat that it no longer comes as a surprise. This is plain wrong. It works on the human desire to have the desirable but cunningly – like all hidden airline fees – hides it at the time of your purchase and then snares you later when you have no choice. Don’t lust after extra leg room, choose an airline that does not charge you to choose.

Gluttony
Always wanting more than they deserve in airline industry terms is charging extra for fuel as part of frequent flyer award seats. Fuel surcharges are a nasty and gluttonous way that some airlines treat their most loyal customers. Not satisfied with having you for a year as a frequent flyer (this is not cheap) they then want you to pay more to access the privileges membership brings. You probably don’t realize the full extent of fuel surcharging when you sign up for a loyalty program – our advice is simple: do you homework and avoid the gluttonous.

Greed
Preferred boarding and Express Seats represent greed in the airline industry. They have made the boarding process so unpleasant that they can charge you to avoid it. This is pure, unbridled greed on their part. It also plays on your greed, something that you may not think of as necessary in normal life; airlines encourage you to want it so much, you’re willing to pay more than $20 for it. Resist the temptation – either put up with having to get on the plane with the normal passengers, or book a higher class ticket from the outset.

Sloth
Overbearing laziness in the context of booking air travel is making you pay to book online or collect your tickets at the airport. This relies on you not knowing or not having the time to find out the exact booking policy for each carrier. This is truly sloth-like: The internet is supposed to reduce the cost of things by automating processes. Take the time to find out if you are going to get stung by hidden fees in advance and avoid the pain.

Deadly but Human
That’s it for part one, next time look forward to wrath, envy and pride. Despite what we have said, the airline industry is not evil – just human. They are trying to increase the bottom line and are using human sins as a route to hidden charges. Forewarned is forearmed: hopefully you will now know when booking air travel if your human fallacies are being targeted.

Philadelphia Limousine will not hide our costs or charge you later for your deadly sins. We have been serving customers with ground transportation and limousine service in the Greater Philadelphia Area for over fifteen years and are proud of the reputation that we have built as an honest organization – with valued and loyal customers. From the moment that we answer your call all the way through reaching your final destination, Philadelphia Limo Service is luxury travel done right.
