Airports
are a breeding ground for germs; with so many people from so many different
locations, it’s a sure recipe to catch something you really don’t want. For
both veteran and new corporate travelers a healthy regime while traveling is
likely to be a priority. Poor health or picking up something while traveling
can really spoil your day and worse still prevent you from doing yourself
justice. As a corporate ground transportation company, we see travelers who
have been through the mill every day. We would like to offer you a short series
of tips to make your travel experience as healthy, and thus as productive, as
possible.
Anti-bacteria
One
of the best ways to avoid germs is simply to remove them before they come into
contact with you – this is why you should carry wipes or gel and use it
regularly. You should view new surfaces as contaminated and clean them before
use or avoid touching – in a short time this will become a habit, and so too
will staying healthy.
Stay
hydrated
A
hydrated body is one that can perform to the best of its ability; similarly, a
hydrated brain functions fully. You must stay hydrated to perform. Consider the
effect of all the travel and air-conditioning you’re likely to experience on
your hydration levels. You need to drink a little more water while traveling
and try to avoid caffeine and alcohol, or take extra water on board to
mitigate.
Eat
well, not conveniently
Fast
food, while convenient, does not help you in either the short term or long term
to stay healthy, many studies have shown. Fast foods are full of salt; no help
with staying hydrated, fat, sugar and artificial ingredients; such as
preservatives. You may feel a small high after eating them but you’ll certainly
feel worse in a short while and that is ignoring the fact you’ve probably taken
to many calories and had more fat and sugar than is recommended. Fortunately,
airports now have many healthy – and timely – choices, such as salad bars.
Make
your own space
The
main source of germs when traveling is other people. Where possible, simply
avoiding extended periods of being in close proximity to people, will help to
prevent catching bugs. You don’t need to get paranoid about it but just give a
small thought to distance – executive lounges and priority boarding can help.
General
tips
Doors,
money and taps are full of germs. You can push a door with a push bar at one
end, where fewer people have already touched. Similarly, if you pocket a note
some loose change, wash your hands, or at least disinfect, before eating.
You
can carry a compact health arsenal while on the road to ensure that you stay
healthy, or if you get something small; to make sure it does not turn into
something major. Vitamins are a sensible addition to any travel wash kit and
may go some way to mitigating your diet and a few cough-drops and painkillers
can allow you to shrug of minor ailments.
